Product Designer

Job Type: Temp-to-perm
Starts: 1 Mar 2016
Lasts: 36 weeks

Salary: TBD

We’re on a mission to transform the consumer finance servicing experience and are seeking a Product Designer to support the development of innovative, integrated digital products that will help turn our mission into reality. Service has been at the core of our company for more than 160 years. In taking care of our customers, we view each contact not as a transaction or cost, but as an opportunity to create a lifelong advocate for our business.

Building on our award-winning phone-based service model – and by exploiting big data and automation – We recognize the crucial role that mobile and next generation digital user experiences need to play in thrilling our customers for years to come. Based in our “World Service” organization, Product Delivery is not your typical corporate tech team. We work in lean, cross-functional groups (“squads”) rapidly iterating, validating with users and then delivering engaging customer solutions to meet and exceed goals. Our squad-based team structure is inspired by the very best technology firms that practice Lean & Agile at scale. As a Product Designer you’ll make key product decisions, speak to real customers, prototype, test, iterate, learn and ship real products to our millions of Card Members.

In doing so you’ll bring a “T-shaped” skillset to the team: You’ll be world-class in one or more disciplines (the vertical stroke of the T) but also bring broad expertise and other skills that support the delivery of amazing digital products. In other words, you’ll expand the breadth and the depth of our small, multi-disciplinary, agile team of technologists, designers and product strategists and will enjoy equal say in the product development process from start to finish. You’ll also bring the strength of character and gravitas to the organization along with us. We are not a startup – it takes more than a decade to build one of the world’s most respected and trusted financial services brands – but we are bringing startup practices and execution to the business. As well as being an outperforming Product Designer you’ll also interact with the wider business at the highest levels and be an ambassador for our way of thinking. Be prepared to confidently explain to our senior leaders what an MVP really means!

How we work:
  • We exude leanness, practice iterative design techniques to concept, prototype, test, and build customer focused products.
  • We commit to a fast-paced release cycle from idea to product, measured in weeks instead of months.
  • You’ll have equal say throughout the product development process — from conception, to build, to launch.
  • You’ll create paper and clickable prototypes.
  • You’ll meet with customers. You’ll observe servicing needs and behavior for different customer use cases and at businesses large and small.
  • Your work will evolve into a product that will ship within 6 months of your start date and you will continue to iterate to further enhance the product.
Core Required Skills and Experience:
  • Eagerness to build upon our award-winning customer service by designing digital experiences that service and delight millions
